If you enjoy the outdoors then you should definitely consider Minnesota.  Known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes" and that's literally true with 11,842 lakes and a Lake Superior shoreline, Minnesota is an outdoor paradise.  But there's lots of culture too.

Sixty percent of Minnesota's population live in the Twin Cities metro area and they host events ranging from the St. Paul Winter Carnival that features giant ice sculptures, an 'Ice Palace' and parades, to the summer's Great Minnesota Get Together (state fair).

On the eastern edge of the Twin Cities area, the St. Croix Valley is just too gorgeous to be called metropolitan, despite being a half-hour or less from downtown St. Paul. The river itself is stunning, with jagged, pine-studded rocks at the northern end, and slow, broad waters further south, before it joins with the Mississippi River.

To Minnesotans, the "North Shore" means Lake Superior, in all its majesty, its shining waters stretching to the horizon. The North Shore is where Superior's craggy shoreline meets Minnesota's forested wilderness. Miniature mountains blanketed by pine and birch stand watch along the shore. Wilderness streams plunge over waterfalls. Harbor towns rest here and there along the shore.

The North Shore Drive, Hwy. 61, runs for about 150 miles from Duluth to Canada. Along the way is some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere. Seven state parks show off the natural treasures of the shoreline, including Gooseberry Falls, the Split Rock Lighthouse, and the state's highest waterfalls at Tettegouche and Grand Portage state parks (list state parks and waterfalls).

Each of the parks have beautiful hiking trails, and the Superior Hiking Trail winds along the wooded ridgeline for 200 miles. Lodge-to-lodge hiking treks can be arranged. For those who want to get out on the big lake itself, there's charter fishing, sailing, kayaking, and excursion boats.

The vibrant Minneapolis and St. Paul areas are the entertainment and cultural center of the upper Midwest. The scenery of this attractive metropolis includes contemporary skylines, historic architecture, and greenways of parks, lakes and the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers.

The Twin Cities is noted for its array of intriguing theater, fine orchestras, art museums and a sculpture garden. There's always a full calendar of visiting performers and Broadway touring shows, as well.

Interesting museums, professional sports, riverboats and a variety of nightspots add to the appeal of the Twin Cities. Along the Mississippi riverfront in Minneapolis are historic mills, the 1883 Stone Arch Bridge, and scenic walkways. Downtown St. Paul is home to a creative children's museum, top-notch science museum and landmark history center (list science & nature centers, tours and excursions).

Mississippi Nursing Jobs

Licensing: Compact State

Mississippi is often overlooked by travel nurses, but those that come find that it has lots to offer.  Mississippi was the birthplace of the most quintessentially American music: country, jazz, blues, gospel and rock and roll.  Mississippi has beautiful soft white sand beaches along an emerald coast, exciting casinos, beautiful antebellum homes covered in spanish moss, mysterious swamps and riverboat cruises on her namesake river.

In the mid-1800's Natchez, MS was one of the wealthiest cities in America.  More than 1/2 of America's millionaires lived in or near Natchez before the Civil War.  Natchez is the best place to experience the flavor of the old south that was depicted in "Gone with the Wind" and many of the mansions are now owned by the historical society and can be toured.

One of the most beautiful historic drives in America is preserved in the Natchez Trace Parkway.  Under the shady trees you will find 444-miles of history from the days before Europeans settled here to civil war sites, natural beauty in swamps and waterfalls and ghost towns like Rocky Springs.  The park service has kept modern life away from 'The Trace' but great eateries and conveniences are frequently only a few miles on either side of you.  Don't miss the chance to drive (or bike) this great American road.

What nurse doesn't love a day on the beach? The gulf coast of Mississippi has some of the best beaches in the world.  The sand is pure white and the consistency of sugar.  The clear emerald water gives this part of the gulf the name "The Emerald Coast." The waves are gentle and the water is warm.  For a perfect beach experience, check out Moss Point Beach in Pascagoula, MS.

Visiting the top of the Gateway Arch should go to the top of list of things to do for anyone in St. Louis, but museums and art galleries, like the St. Louis Science Center, the Saint Louis Art Museum, should be on that list too.  Parents will enjoy taking the kids to the St. Louis Children's Museum (aka the Magic house).  And if you want to get some adrenaline flowing, visitSix Flags St. Louis.

Kansas City has just added the Power and Light District to it's list of dinning and entertainment spots--joining Westport, The Plaza and Legends/Kansas Speedway.  Kansas City also has two major amusement parks to entertain you during the warmer months: Worlds of Fun and the new Schlitterbahn Water Park and Vacation Village.  Schlitterbahn parks are consistently rated among the best water parks in the world.

The middle of Missouri is full of natural beauty.  The Lake of the Ozarks is a great place for boating, skiing or enjoying a few days of at one of the many resorts surrounding it.  Ha Ha Tonka is a spectacular hiking spot (with a deserted castle) and Missouri features some spectacular caves, including Bridal Cave, also in the Ozarks.

Montana Nursing Jobs

Billings, Missoula

Montana means mountain and it has some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the United States. It's no wonder nurses love Montana! Both Yellowstone and Glacier National Park are in Montana and numerous natural state parks such as Wild Horse Island and the badlands of Makoshika State Park.  Montana has lots for you to do in the middle of all that beauty.  In the winter there are great resorts, like Big Sky, for skiing, snowboards and tubing.  In the summer there is hiking, climbing, and even extreme sports like skydiving.

Glacier National Park stretches across the Canadian border to become Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada forming the world's first International Peace Park.  Glacier has deep azure lakes, some covered in icebergs in the summer, tall rugged peaks outlined with deep frozen glaciers.  One of the best experiences of any national park is a drive on the Going-to-the-Sun Road.  This incredible 52-mile drive takes you through the most incredible scenery in the park and over the Continental Divide.

Yellowstone was the first national park and it is still one of the most spectacular.  People are drawn to Yellowstone to see the amazing thermal features, rich array of wildlife and the lower Yellowstone falls dropping into the Yellowstone canyon. Geysers that shoot water hundreds of feet into the air and rainbow-colored hot springs where life lives at close to boiling are found in only a few places on earth.  Wild grizzly bears, wolves, buffalo and many other animals can be seen roaming freely around the park as they did hundreds of years ago.  Yellowstone is a hikers dream and there are places in Yellowstone where you can hike all day and not see another human.

Montana is the ultimate place for healthcare workers that love mountains to be!
