Dietitians promote health and prevent illness through dietary management. They provide nutritional education and aide clients in selecting and preparing foods in a manner that suits their health needs, such as teaching a diabetic patient to monitor carbohydrate intake or teaching a patient with high blood pressure how to select and prepare low sodium meals.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this occupation is expected to experience average growth, with a 9% increase in employment opportunities by the year 2016. The median annual salary of dietitians as of May 2006 is $46,980.
