A Labor and Delivery Nurse provides a balance of the same elements that are found in critical care, OR, emergency department and pediatric nursing. A Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse needs to have excellent communication skills because they are the link between the patient, family members and the doctor. A Labor and Delivery RN must be able to think quickly and make decisions quickly. L&D Registered Nurses help the physician and spend long hours on their feet.
As a Labor and Delivery RN some of your duties include:
Providing assessment of contractions, dilation, fetal heart rate, etc.
Performing follow-up duties which include:
Analyzing the condition of the newborn.
Assessing the condition of the mother.
Watching for signs of distress.
Watching for signs of infections and any other problems.
One year of experience as a L&D Nurse within the past two years.
Current RN License in good standing.
Up to date Basic Life Support from American Heart Association.
