A Labor and Delivery RN provides a balance of the same elements that are found in the ICU, OR, ER department and pediatric nursing. A Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse must have excellent communication skills because they are the link between the patient, family members and the doctor. A Labor and Delivery RN must be able to think quickly and come up with solutions quickly. L&D RNs aide the obstetrician and spend many hours on their feet.
As a L&D Registered Nurse some of your responsibilities consist of:
Assessing contractions, dilation, heart rates, etc.
Providing follow-up duties which include:
Checking the newborns general condition.
Assessing the mothers condition.
Watching for signs of distress.
Checking for signs of infections and any other problems.
One year of experience as a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse within the past two years.
Current Nursing License in good standing.
Current BLS through American Heart Association.
Negative Drug Screen.
Appleton is a beautiful small town, nestled in the Fox River Valley of northeastern Wisconsin. It's close to Lake Michigan, at the north end of Lake Winnebago and not too far south from Green Bay. The beautiful Fox River runs northward through Appleton as it makes its way to Lake Michigan at Green Bay. Several great trails are available for hiking and biking along the Fox River and throughout Appleton and the neighboring communities. In the summer, flower beds line the roads and the sounds of birds fill the air.
High Cliff State Park is just a few minutes outside of Appleton at the north end of Lake Winnebago. It has a marina, public beach, huge playground for the kids and plenty of room to relax or have a picnic. The cliffs above the beach are great for hiking or rock climbing.
