Job Description

A Labor and Delivery RN offers a balance of the same elements that are found in the ICU, operating room, ER department and pediatric nursing. A Labor and Delivery RN must have excellent communication skills because they are the link between the patient, family members and the physician. A Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse must be able to think in a fast passed setting and make decisions quickly. L&D Registered Nurses assist the physician and spend many hours on their feet.

Responsibilities

As a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse some of your responsibilities consist of:
  • Assessing contractions, cervix for dilation, heart rates, etc.
  • Providing follow-up duties which include:
    • Assessing the condition of the newborn.
    • Checking the condition of the mother.
    • Looking for signs of trouble.
    • Checking for signs of infections and any other problems.

    Requirements

    • One year of experience as a L&D Nurse within the past two years.
    • Active RN License in good standing.
    • Up to date Basic Life Support from American Heart Association.
    • Negative Drug Screen.

In the winter, Anchorage becomes a wonderland.  Skiers and snowboarders have three choices within 45 minutes of downtown Anchorage.  All of them surround you in stunning scenery and awesome terrain.  Opportunities are also available for the truly adventurous to head into the backcountry to ski on untouched powder.  Winter also provides opportunties to see the northern lights put on a light show that that can only rarely be seen anywhere else in America.  Add in dog sleeding, ice fishing, skijoring (a fast growing sport that combines cross country skiing with a dog pulling you) and Anchorage's vibrant indoors nightlife and you have a destination like no other!
