A Labor and Delivery RN offers a balance of the same elements that are found in the ICU, OR, emergency department and pediatric nursing. A Labor and Delivery RN must have excellent communication skills because they are the link between the patient, family members and the doctor. A Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse must be able to think quickly and make decisions quickly. L&D Registered Nurses work closely with the doctor and spend long hours on their feet.
As a L&D RN some of your responsibilities consist of:
Making assessments of contractions, cervix for dilation, heart rates, etc.
Performing follow-up duties which include:
Checking the condition of the newborn.
Assessing the mothers condition.
Watching for signs of distress.
Watching for signs of infections and any other troubles.
One year of experience as a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse within the past two years.
Current Nursing License in good standing.
Current Basic Life Support from American Heart Association.
Negative Drug Screen.
