Medical Records / Health Information Technicians are responsible for maintaining patient records. The duties may include assembling patient files, ensuring that all necessary paperwork is organized and maintained in accordance with clinic and hospital policy and procedures and state and federal regulations. Medical Records Health Information Technicians may also be responsible for forwarding requested medical information to other physicians offices. Medical Records Clerks and Health Information Technicians must be detail oriented, highly organized and computer proficient.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the field of Medical Records and Health Information Technicians is expected to grow faster than average, with a 18% increase in job opportunities by the year 2016. The median salary for this field in May 2006 was $29,400.
